Since then he is researcher and software engineer at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI). He has worked on Discourse Modelling, Multimodal Interfaces and<br \/>\nDialog Systems, but his main research interests include Interconnected Factory Systems and Human Machine Interaction Technologies for Future Factories (Industrie 4.0), distributed manufacturing via Cyber Physical Production Modules, flexible Web service integration by Semantic Web Services, and knowledge<br \/>\nmanagement based on Semantic Technologies. Furthermore he is responsible for the development and systems integration based on various service-oriented middleware products in international research projects and industrial projects.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In addition, he leads the research area to explore <strong>Interconnected Factory Architectures (IFA) <\/strong>in the DFKI research unit of <strong>Innovative Factory Systems (IFS)<\/strong>. The aim is to provide optimum human support in the smart production environment of the factory of the future. We must therefore bear in mind that the success of the<br \/>\nfactory of the future depends on the interaction between man and machine. As the most flexible element of the value chain, people play a central role. To integrate people into this new working world, we need innovative business and communication processes. The machines and their interfaces, such as user interfaces, need to be adapted more to the needs of people in order to support them more effectively in their daily work. TWIN4TRUCKS is using Digital TWINS, Artificial Intelligence, and innovative locating technologies in order to respond to the growing complexity of the manufacturing process for commercial vehicles. (started 2022, ongoing)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/easy-edge-cloud.de\">EASY<\/a> &#8211; Energy-efficient analysis and control processes in the dynamic edge-cloud continuum for industrial manufacturing is a project funded by the Federal Minstry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action as part of the Edge Data Economy program.<br \/>\nEdge computing enables data-sovereign, near-real-time processing of data directly at the point of origin for the production organization according to the Industry 4.0 model. (started 2022, ongoing)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.digitbrain.eu\">DIGITbrain<\/a> is an EU innovation program to give SMEs easy access to digital twins. A Digital Twin is a computer-based application\/simulation that mimics the real production line of a company and runs in parallel with the real manufacturing process.<br \/>\nUsing this Digital Twin, companies can rationalise the manufacturing process, make predictions<br \/>\nregarding expected machine failures and can predict maintenance needs, for example. (2020 &#8211; 2023)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kybeidos.de\/zusammenarbeit\/referenzen\/industrie-40-foerderprojekt-akzent4basys\">Akzent4Basys<\/a>. In this project an active worker-centered shop floor interaction system for BaSys is designed and implemented to provide flexible information for the employee. (2020 &#8211; 2022)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloudifacturing.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CloudiFacturing<\/a> Cloudification of Production Engineering for Predictive Digital Manufacturing &#8211; The mission of CloudiFacturing is to optimize production processes and producibility using Cloud\/HPC-based modelling and simulation, leveraging online factory data and advanced data analytics, thus contributing to the competitiveness and resource efficiency of manufacturing SMEs, ultimately fostering the vision of Factories 4.0 and the circular economy. (2017 &#8211; 2021)<\/li>\n<li>CloudiFacturing will empower over 60 European organizations (many of them being manufacturing SMEs) and will support about 20 cross-national application experiments that will primarily be selected via two Open Calls.
